SUNDAY APRIL 8TH
WHAT IS OPEN STREETS?

Open Streets is incredible event that happens on Uptown23rd every spring. Nearly 30,000 people will converge on NW 23rd Street for this annual event promoting health and wellness. In addition to the festivities provided by the Oklahoma Heath Department, businesses and organizations along 23rd Street work together to provide massive event of food, activities, and engagement with our community.

The event will close 23rd Street down from about 10am-5pm on Sunday, April 8th (official event time is 12-4pm). This means we will be changing our normal Sunday routine to fully participate in this city event. Instead of our normal gatherings at 9:30 and 11am we are asking everyone in our church to come to Open Streets and to serve for one shift. So please make sure you are a part of this event!

WE NEED YOU FOR THIS EVENT!
This is an amazing opportunity for our church to engage people and show them love and hospitality!
Sign up to serve during one or both of our serving shifts: 10:30-1:30pm and 1:30-4:30pm.

WHAT ARE WE DOING DURING OPEN STREETS?
Each of the following ideas provide space and opportunity for conversation for our church people to engage in conversation with people at Open Streets.

1. Lemonade Stand
We will be creating conversation with people by giving away Lemonade at our amazing adult sized Lemonade Stand. Last year we gave away almost 5,000 cups of lemonade and could give more!

2. Parklet Area
We will also have a Parklet - a creatively designed space for people to hang out, sit down, and enjoy a small park-like feel. Including music and few outdoor activities, such as yard games.

3. Dog Station
Dogs, dogs, dogs are everywhere at Open Streets, so we are creating a great space for dogs to get a drink of cool water, a treat, and a space to connect as "dog people."

4. Our Building will be OPEN!
We've found that people are naturally curious about our building and many of the buildings along 23rd that have undergone renovation. So we are going to be encouraging anyone to take a look around!

ANSWERING A FEW QUESTIONS?

  1. What about our kids? How can they be involved?
We would love for you to involve your kids with you while you serve - they can serve right alongside you! We realize that for parents with very young kids this is difficult, so we suggest splitting your shift as parents so one can be on parent duty for a while and then switch it up. This is great event for your family to come to so don't miss out!

  2. What about lunch for those serving on the first shift?
In our kitchen we will have lunch available for anyone who wants to eat for free. You can also wait til your shift is over and go and enjoy the food trucks and restaurants of Open Streets.

  3. Can we enjoy the entire Open Streets event beyond what we are doing at the church?
Of course! That's why we are encouraging everyone to choose a shift to serve and then to take advantage of the event during the rest of the time. The event is from 12-4pm.

  4. Where do I park?
Parking for this event is mostly street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Our main parking lot will not be accessible since 23rd Street is closed. So be prepared to park a few blocks away.
